Washi, Traditional Japanese Paper Yarn is very functional and sustainable material derived from nature. It's lighter than linen and very strong. It's made from Manila Hemp which is the strongest natural fiber used for a rope for mooring vessels also.  Manila Hemp is a very eco-friendly material as it grows very fast and absorbs a lot of CO2 during its growth process.
